I’m Don Nuwan Nilanaga, a Chartered Quantity Surveyor (MRICS, MCIOB) and Cost Consultant with a BSc (Hons) QS and over 17 years of international experience in the construction industry. My professional journey spans across Sri Lanka, Myanmar, the Maldives, Australia, Vietnam, and New Zealand, covering diverse sectors such as modular construction, residential housing, aged care, hospitality, and industrial facilities.
I began my career in 2008 as a Trainee Technical Officer in Sri Lanka, progressing to a Project Coordinator role in a telecom infrastructure company from 2009 to 2012. From 2012 to 2014, I worked with Huawei Technologies Lanka as a Site Engineer, delivering turnkey tower installations across the country.
Between 2015 and 2017, I expanded my regional experience by working in Myanmar as a Senior Quantity Surveyor on a large industrial project — the Ball Can Factory in Tilawa SEZ. I was responsible for managing procurement strategy, contract administration, and progress control.
In 2018, I transitioned into international client-side project management by joining the 7,000-unit housing scheme in Hulhumalé, Maldives as a Site Engineer representing the employer under a FIDIC turnkey model.
Since 2020, I have been deeply involved in modular construction and prefabricated building systems, taking on both offshore and onsite cost control roles. I currently serve as the Head of Cost Control at a global modular construction firm, where I lead:
